Privacy Policy

Oyate Radio is operated by BrightLaunch Digital Marketing, LLC, a veteran owned and minority owned company based in Rapid City, South Dakota. This policy explains what we collect when you sign up on oyateradio.com, what we do with it, and what we will never do with it.

We collect as little as we can. We do not sell your information. We do not trade it, rent it, or hand it to advertisers.

Text messaging

Giving us your phone number is optional. You can join the email list without it. We only send text messages to people who checked the box asking for them.

If you opted in to text messages, here is what that means:

• Message frequency varies. We expect this to be rare, mostly launch news and occasional station announcements.
• Message and data rates may apply. That is between you and your carrier.
• Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving messages. You can also reply UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT.
• Reply HELP for help, or email us at the address at the bottom of this page.
• Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
• Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase.

Opting out by text works through the same phone number we send from. You do not need to visit a website or call anyone to stop messages.

What we collect

When you sign up on the website

• Your email address. Required, because it is how we tell you the station is live.
• Your phone number. Optional, and only stored if you checked the box asking for text messages.
• A name, if you give us one. Optional.
• A record of your consent. The date and time you signed up, which version of these terms was in effect, and your browser's user agent string. We keep this so we can show that you asked to hear from us.

Your IP address

We use your IP address to stop automated signup abuse. We do not store it. Before it is written down it is run through a one way cryptographic hash with a private key, which produces a value we can compare against other signups but cannot turn back into an address. If our database were ever exposed, your IP address would not be in it.

When you listen

Our streaming server produces ordinary web server logs, which include the fact that a connection was made and roughly how long it lasted. We use these for counting listeners and keeping the stream running. You do not need an account to listen and we do not ask you to identify yourself.

What we do not collect

• No advertising identifiers. We do not request the iOS Advertising Identifier (IDFA) or the Android Advertising ID (GAID).
• No third party advertising trackers or advertising pixels on this website.
• No payment information. We do not sell anything to listeners on this site.
• No location data beyond the general region implied by an IP address, which we hash and discard as described above.

How we use what we collect

• To send you the confirmation message you asked for.
• To tell you when Oyate Radio goes live, and to send station news you signed up for.
• To keep a record that you consented, which we are required to keep.
• To prevent spam and automated abuse of the signup form.
• To measure how many people are listening, in aggregate.

We do not use your information to build an advertising profile of you, and we do not let anyone else do that either.

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent, trade, or license your personal information to anyone. We do not share it with third parties or affiliates for marketing, promotional, lead generation, or third party analytics purposes.

We use a small number of service providers to actually run the station. They process data on our behalf, under contract, only to deliver the service we asked them for, and they are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

• Supabase hosts our database in the United States.
• Resend delivers our email.
• Twilio delivers our text messages.
• Contabo hosts our streaming server and this website.

The only other circumstance in which we would disclose your information is if we were legally required to, by a valid subpoena, court order, or other lawful demand. If that happens and we are permitted to tell you, we will.

How long we keep it

We keep your contact information until you ask us to remove it, or until the list is no longer in use. If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record of the fact that you unsubscribed, so that we do not accidentally contact you again. Consent records are kept for as long as we are required to be able to produce them.

Your choices

• Email. Every announcement email we send has an unsubscribe link. One click and you are off the list. Confirmation emails, which you only receive because you just asked to join, do not carry one, because there is nothing yet to unsubscribe from: an unconfirmed signup expires on its own.
• Text. Reply STOP to any message.
• Deletion. Email us and ask us to delete your information. We will do it, and we will confirm when it is done.
• Access. Email us and ask what we have on file for you. We will tell you.

You do not have to explain why, and asking will never affect your ability to listen to the station.

Security

The website and the stream are served over TLS. Our subscriber list is stored with row level security enabled and deny by default, which means the public key used by this website cannot read the list back. The keys that can read it are held on servers and never sent to your browser.

No system is perfect, and we will not claim otherwise. If we ever learn that subscriber information has been exposed, we will tell the people affected.

Children

This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant and affects how we use information you already gave us, we will tell the people on the list directly rather than quietly editing the page.
